The Current music app is one that allows you to earn cash while playing music. It’s said you can earn up to $600 per year. I know it sounds too good to be true, but you can be certain that, yes, you can earn money while listening to tunes, but the question is how much?
In today’s app review, I wanted to talk in depth about the Current music app.
How much can you earn?
Is the Current music app legit?
Is it worth your time?
What do other people think?
As in all of my reviews, I’m 100% honest, to the point, and I would never promote something I wouldn’t use.
So, with that out of the way, let’s jump in and begin.
How to Sign Up
First, let’s quickly take a glance at how you can sign up.
At the moment, the app is available for both Android and iOS devices. It’s 100% free to join and only takes a moment as the app asks for your email address.
At the moment, it’s only available via a smartphone and you cannot earn via a desktop/laptop device.
Earning Current Coins
To start earning coins, it’s as easy as listening to the music located directly inside the app.
As you can see from that screenshot, the app, at the moment, is paying me 3.8 points per minute of listening. Granted, this can change based on your usage, as well as the super boost (I will get into this next), but pay close attention to the top of your screen to see what you can make.
To start earning, just click on any of the stations you see, all of which are categorized by the following:
- rap & hip hop
- r&b & soul
- rock & metal
- deep hour & down tempo
- relax & chill
- latin & reggaeton
- asia pop & bollywood
- holiday & musical
- news & talk
Keep in mind that you DO NOT need to listen to music. As you can see, there are sports, news, and comedy channels.
To start listening, just click on it and go about your day as you would. Every minute you listen, you will earn the points noted in your menu bar.
And, you can earn more coins by doing a variety of tasks, all of which I get into next here.
The app also allows you to earn what’s known as a “super boost,” which adds coins to your account as well as gives you a minute boost. It will look something like this:
You can see that my boost went to a 4.8 point per minute rate, and this was due to letting them access my location. Below, there are a variety of ways to access this “boost.” It will always vary, but you can activate it by completing one of the tasks mentioned usually.
This can be done via offers, surveys and videos, etc. And, if you’re familiar with Swagbucks, for example, it works in the same way. I don’t recommend that you focus on this section as it’s not as valuable as most survey sites, but I just wanted to mention it as it’s a way to earn points on the platform.
This entire section is self-explanatory. Just click on anything of interest, follow the prompts and earn the points noted if you complete in its entirety.
How many points can you earn?
It will depend. If you were to check in every day, you can earn 20+ points or you can earn even more points if you allow the app to use your phone as the lock screen. If you were to watch short videos, this can earn you six points or so.
There are a lot of ways to earn, not just from music, so be sure to check out this boost section out to see how much you can potentially earn.
Redeeming Your Points
When it comes time to redeem your points, you can do so via a variety of ways, form an Amazon gift card to PayPal. On occasions, they have products you can buy as well, such as knock-off Air Pod headphones or a knock-off Fitbit.
At a minimum, to cash out, you will need 6,950 points, which is enough for a $1 Amazon gift card. In case you want PayPal, then you will need at least 13,500 points, which is enough for $6 in cash.
So, let’s do the math…
If we were to make 3.8 points per minute, and you wanted the $1 Amazon card, it would take 1,828 minutes. That’s 30 hours of listening to earn $1 in points without any sort of boost.
If you were to listen to music 30 hours a week, you’re going to make about $1, a far cry from the $600 per year they claim. While you can do surveys, offers, and watch videos, you will have to do a lot of these activities to come close to that.
Again, keep in mind this is if you don’t do any of the boosts. If you were to complete the boosts, this number can lower quite a bit.
For example, one Reddit user did say they watched videos and downloaded games to boost their per minute rate. In doing this, they were able to earn $20 a month.
What Others Are Saying
As in all of my reviews, I like to see what others are saying. And, to make things easy, I broke down what I found in third-party reviews, separating by pros and cons.
- PayPal and Amazon gift card options
- you can earn points to listen to music
- highly rated on Google Play/App Store
- tons of music to choose from
- variety of ways to earn points
- takes hours to earn $1+
- ton of advertisements
- seems to slow down the phone (battery hog)
- earning rates can vary
In the end, the Current music app does have a ton of stations you can listen to. If you’re already listening to local music or music in general, it’s worth checking out, I suppose.
You’re not going to get rich, as you can see from my projections, maybe a few dollars a week at best, and that’s with a full-time listening schedule. And, you will probably have to complete some boosts.
Here’s how I look at it…
If I’m already listening to these stations, then sure, let’s make some money. But, if you listen to Spotify or Podcasts, then you may want to skip it as you will find your selection limited.
No matter what you do with it, you will not make a ton of cash, unfortunately.
That does it for now.
If you want to comment on the app or maybe you have something to add, you’re more than welcome to do so in the comments below.
